Family History

I am posting what I have learned of our family history. If you know different please let me know. If you have family stories to share, please do. If you have pictures... PLEASE SHARE.

From what I can tell the Wingo family has been in Missouri for many generations. They were brought here by a white Wingo family out of Amelia County, Virginia in the early 1800s. At the end of the Civil War there were three branches of Wingo families (all related) Jane Wingo who married a Manning, Yance Blunt Wingo who married a Mathews, and Toliver Wingo who also married a Mathews. All of them lived in a town called Harmony in Washington County.

If you google Wingo in Washington County you will come up with what is called a slave grave of Rose Wingo. Rosetter (as I've found in my research) did not die as a slave, but there appears to be many generations of Wingos at this site which may include slaves.

Rose's parents were Toliver Wingo and Jane Mathews (more on the Mathews side later). Toliver's grandmother name was Judy Wingo (born around 1769) and she was born in Virginia and brought to Missouri.

Toliver and Jane also had a son named William. William married Josephine or Pory Matthews. From William and Pory we are all descended.
